Clam Shells are listed in the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) lists, they categorise species into 3 appendices based on the level of protection they need:

1. **Appendix I**: Includes species that are threatened with extinction and are or may be affected by trade. Trade in specimens of these species is permitted only in exceptional circumstances.

2. **Appendix II**: Includes species that are not necessarily threatened with extinction but may become so unless trade is closely controlled. It also includes species whose trade must be regulated to prevent them from becoming endangered.

3. **Appendix III**: Contains species that are protected in at least one country, which has asked other CITES Parties for assistance in controlling the trade.

Clam shells are listed under Appendix II, meaning trade is allowed but regulated to prevent exploitation that could threaten their survival.
