Originally from France, Sandrine Day lives in Kaikoura, New Zealand with her husband, Kevin, their son, Hugo, their dog, Pino, and their 8 chickens for now.
Sandrine has been passionate about seashells since a very young age, and has always loved going for long walks on the beach to collect seashells, turning them into jewellery or other craft projects.
Seashell Story started as a little stall market in beautiful seaside town Kaikoura in New Zealand, where Sandrine started her own seashell candles creations. Seeing how popular they were she had to expand her range of candles and get a larger collection of seashells.
In 2014 Sandrine created “Seashell Story” opperating as a seashells trader and artisan. Much time and effort has been involved in finding good authorized suppliers to bring a select variety of seashells into New Zealand.
In 2017 after a difficult year following the 7.8 earthquakes in Kaikoura, Sandrine and her friend (local artist) Jane Riley had the opportunity to set up a shop together. A dream came true for both of us. We set up in an old shipping container converted in shop, it was used by other retailer in Christchurch following their own earthquakes a few years prior.
We called it “Ocean Arts” to combine both of us in this awesome space.
Sandrine hopes people share her love for the natural environment and lovingly create many special seashell souvenirs from beautiful Kaikoura.
Jane Riley is published as one of New Zealand’s Favourite artists and her artworks are displayed in various national and international private collections.
